MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, WY – Today, July 24, the National Park Service (NPS) announced a decision about the future management of bison at Yellowstone National Park. The Record of Decision, a culmination of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and National Environmental Policy Act process that began in 2022, will allow the NPS to manage bison based on new scientific information and circumstances that have changed since the previous EIS, completed in 2000.
Over 70 new bison are integrating into the existing buffalo herd at the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation.
Something extraordinary just happened at The Wilds.
In a collaborative effort, The Wilds, the Wildlife Restoration Foundation (WRF), the InterTribal Buffalo Council (ITBC), and the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe successfully relocated 74 bison to the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation in South Dakota. This move is a huge milestone in bison conservation and cultural preservation.
